Converting iTunes files into MP3 format question?

When I convert a music file in iTunes to a mp3 format it converts but then it duplicates the file. I can't tell which music file is the mp3 file and which file is the wma or mp4a file. Can some one help me out on figuring out which music file is the MP3 and which is the other file. Thank you
