Trying to do my nails but the acrylic wont harden?

My mom use to do her own nails but has recently stopped and gave me her stuff. I have had my nails done professionally but want to do them myself. Why wont they harden? They dry but it stays gummy. the products I am using are professional products. Any ideas?
