Offensive words edited from Huckleberry Finn; your thoughts?

I agree wholeheartedly with your intelligent comments etc. I honestly believe the world is heading down the wrong path of "Political Correctness" which if it continues unabated a lot of our history will be deleted or changed beyond the understanding by future generations. Why change what happened in the era of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer in the literature of those times. Looking back into the past the words used in the publications in then were part of the language of the day and even though they are now in the minds of some purists unacceptable in today's Society. Sure maybe they are but that still doesn't give anyone the right to change everything today just to be "Politically Correct" in today's generation. I read Mark Twain's books possibly 60 years ago and have had no thoughts ever since that the words used were or would ever become offensive. Maybe there are too many "purists" that feel guilty or embarred at the descriptive words used then which now appear to some "Outrageous" but who has the right to go back through our 100s of years of History to attempt to right the wrongs maybe of those days. They were never written to be taken as derogative terms at the time, it's only time that has made people aware now that they COULD have been wrong at the time of writing which they weren't anyway.
